Each summer, Conference and Guest Services hosts more than 100 conferences and over 15,000 guests on campus. We are looking for an outstanding group of students to fill our summer staff positions that play such a vital role in providing services to our guests.
There are many benefits to working with our program-a competitive wage, the possibility of free housing, and in some cases, a free meal with each shift worked. Hospitality and Tourism Management students can earn credit toward their field study hours.
Chief Objective of Positions
Conference and Guest Services positions provide services for approximately 100 summer camps and conferences for over 15,000 guests each summer. Employees will work with guests and conference/camp sponsors to ensure a positive experience at Virginia Tech. As an employee, you may be responsible for handling tasks such as check-in/check-out, conference management, preparation of linens and amenities, key control, dining and catering arrangements, and other tasks as required.
The available positions are: Conference Aide, Desk Assistant Manager, Set-up Crew Assistant Manager, Desk Attendants, and Conference Set-up Crew. Application Instructions
- Gather Information
Gather all documents needed to complete the application process before starting. Suggested information includes your complete education history, references, and employment information, plus any electronic documents you plan to attach to your application.
- Create an Electronic Application (If you have an electronic application on file, go to Step 4)
Go to the Jobs at VT website and select "Search All Jobs" on the right side of the page. At the next page select "Create Application" on the left side and complete your electronic application. Your application will be stored in a secure environment and will be accessible for future job interests. Once your application is complete, you must then apply for a particular opening to be considered.
Note: The more information you provide on your application, the easier it will be to effectively evaluate your skills, abilities, and qualifications. Attaching a resume does not substitute for completing the application form (both must be completed to be considered for employment).
- Search Posting
On the Positions at Virginia Tech website, select the orange box labeled "Temporary Pool" and look for the "Summer Conference Wage Pool."
- Apply for the Summer Conference Wage Pool
Select "View" located under the job title "Summer Conference Wage Pool." Review the job description and select "Apply For This Posting" to apply.
- Managing your Application
When you set up your application, you created a unique user name and password. Use this to log in to view the status of your application, update applications, or withdraw from consideration. Once you submit an application you will receive a confirmation number and you will not be able to make further changes to your application for that position.
