Ambler Johnston Hall will be renovated to support new central heating and cooling systems, and will feature sections of suite-style bedrooms with private kitchens and bathrooms for upperclassmen.
Traditional-style rooms will also be updated with new fixtures and furniture and public hall bathrooms will be renovated to meet current accessibility standards.
The shared spaces of the building will undergo significant changes, with the addition of a three-story central atrium, new fitness center, library, day spa, game room, community kitchen, laundry facilities, study lounges, and technology center.
The renovation will also include safety and accessibility accommodations, such as a centrally located stairway in the atrium and elevators and ramps.
East Ambler Johnston Hall will be renovated after New Residence Hall 1 is completed. Construction on West Ambler Johnston Hall will begin after the completion of New Residence Hall 2 in order to offset the number of student beds displaced during the renovation.
This building and all new construction projects in the Division of Student Affairs’ current master building plan are designed with sustainability in mind and will meet requirements for U.S. Green Building Council LEED silver certification.
