Application Overview

In order to apply for a living-learning community, you must do the following:

  • Create a PID

You will use your university PID and password to begin an application. We will only use your Virginia Tech email address to communicate with you regarding the application process. Check your e-mail on a regular basis for the status of your application.

Programs for new Virginia Tech students are:

Academic Major Learning Community

Academic major learning communities bring together students pursuing a common professional field such as engineering or biological and life sciences. The majority of the participants are first-year students. Students are encouraged to continue living in the community serving in various leadership roles and creating a multigenerational living environment.

inVenTs

The four Academic Major Learning Communities housed within the inVenTs Living-learning community are:

Enhanced Learning Community

Enhanced-learning communities explore a specific area of interest (e.g., service learning or leadership) through academic courses and co-curricular experiences. These communities are open to students of any academic major.

Residential Colleges

  • The Honors Residential College at East Ambler Johnston (HRC) is available to any university honors student regardless of major. This program is by invitation only. Contact University Honors for more information at 540-231-4591.

  • The Residential College at West Ambler Johnston (RC@WAJ) is open to all students regardless of major, year, or honors status. The key criterion for application is a commitment to be involved in a dynamic community that emphasizes student engagement, academic success, and a high level dedication to being a good citizen. First-year students admitted must make a two-year residential commitment. Because we want new members of the college to fully integrate within their respective houses we do not allow new students to request a roommate.

Themed Housing

Themed housing offers students with common interests the opportunity to live together. Residents are encouraged to create a community by engaging in shared activities. These programs are open to first-year through senior-level students.

The application process for new students begins on December 15. You can only apply online for these programs.
