Driving Directions

The main Virginia Tech campus is located in Blacksburg, Va., about 38 miles southwest of Roanoke, VA. Use the location of the Visitor Information Center as a destination for on-line routing and mapping software, and GPS devices. The Visitor Information Center is located at the intersection of "Southgate Dr. and Duckpond Dr., Blacksburg, VA 24060" and the coordinates for this point are 37° 12' 58"N, 80° 25' 26"W.

Virginia Tech is conveniently located near Interstates 77 and 81, approximately four hours from Washington, D.C., three hours from Charlotte, NC, and 2.5 hours from Charleston, WV.


To reach the campus from Interstate 81 (southbound and northbound):

  1. Take Exit 118, and then follow signs for Exit 118B onto U.S. 460 West.
  2. Follow the signs for Blacksburg/Virginia Tech.
  3. Drive for 2.5 miles on U.S. 460 to the traffic light at V.A. 314, Southgate Drive. Turn right onto Southgate Drive. There is a campus map a quarter-mile on the right and the Visitor Information Center is a half-mile from U.S. 460 on the right.

To reach the downtown Blacksburg from Interstate 81 (southbound and northbound):
  1. Take Exit 118, and then follow signs for Exit 118B onto U.S. 460 West.
  2. From the bypass, Bus. U.S. 460 -- South Main Street, Exit 5AB, will take you to South Main Street in downtown Blacksburg.
  3. You can also reach downtown Blacksburg if you continue on U.S. 460 to the V.A. 412 E/Prices Fork Road exit for "Downtown." Prices Fork Road ends at North Main Street, where you can turn right onto Main Street to reach downtown proper.



Traveling by Plane

The Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport in Roanoke, V.A., is served by major domestic airlines. The campus is approximately 45 minutes from Roanoke Regional Airport by car. Several rental car companies have desks there.

The Smart Way Bus offers regularly scheduled service between the airport and Squires Student Center on Campus.

Roanoke Airport Limousine Service provides transportation between the airport and campus.

Private planes may land at the Virginia Tech/Montgomery Executive Airport adjacent to campus. Call 540- 231-4444 for more information.

Traveling by Train

Several Amtrak stations are located in White Sulfur Springs, Alderson, and Hinton, W.V. Other nearby stations are located in Clifton Forge, Lynchburg, and Danville, V.A. Call 1-800-USA-RAIL or visit the Amtrak website.

Traveling by Bus

Greyhound Lines, Inc. serves the Blacksburg area via a stop in Roanoke at the Campbell Court bus station. The Smart Way Bus offers regularly scheduled service between Campbell Court and Squires Student Center on Campus. Greyhound buses also stop in Wytheville, V.A.

Getting Around Blacksburg

Blacksburg Transit provides safe, dependable, and affordable transportation to Blacksburg's citizens and visitors. It is one of the top rated transit systems in the United States, with stops on campus.


Limited parking is available for conference participants at no charge. Conference and Guest Services will negotiate with Parking Services to arrange parking for your guests. All on-campus parking is subject to the approval of Parking Services. All guests parking on campus must adhere to university parking rules and regulations. Conference and Guest Services will not be responsible for tickets issued to guests while on campus. Any conference guest receiving payment or stipend through the university, must purchase a parking pass.


All conferences/camps have different arrival and departure times and locations. All guests will receive this information from the conference/camp prior to your arrival date.
